What is the Difference between 3000K and 6500K in Lighting?

If you go out and try to buy lighting for your home, you will be asked whether you want a light in CDL or Warm White. Some shops may even ask whether you want 3000K or 6500K. But many people do not know the difference between these or what they mean.

  • What is K in lighting?
K, stands for Kelvin, which is the unit for temperature. So, 3000K means that the Colour Temperature (CCT) of the light is 3000.

  • What is 3000K colour?
3000K is a warm white color light. It has a distinct brownish tint often called Warm White (WW).

  • What is 6500K colour?
6500K is white light, with a bluish tinge. It is the most common colour used in lights in India. It is also called Cool Day Light (CDL).

  • When to use 3000K / WW lights?
Warm White lights are usually more soothing and relaxing. They are ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, hotels, lounges, etc, wherever you need to create an inviting ambience.

  • When to use 6500K / CDL lights?
CDL lights are perfect for homes, workplaces, study areas, factories, hospitals, etc. Wherever you need the perfect colours of the objects to be visible, CDL lights are preferred.

  • What light should you use in your home?
In the mornings and early evenings, where a lot of work has to be done, CDL lights are preferred. But at night time, Warm White lights are better and relaxing. A great solution for this problem is to use 3CCT lights. These lights have a switching mode where they go from CDL to WW to Neutral White (4000K) with each switch. Pressfit Lighting has 3CCT Panel Lights available for your homes as well.
